Tech Career Runbook

Build credible professional visibility before a job search becomes urgent

Designed for software engineers and people in related technical roles, Tech Career Runbook helps you build and maintain a professional footprint so relevant recruiters and companies hiring for cross-border remote roles can discover your work and approach you while continuing to live in your current country.

This findability-first path requires active upkeep. It does not teach underlying technical skills or guarantee recruiter attention, interviews, offers, or a role.

Why build findability early

Findability compounds slowly as credible signals and professional relationships develop. Building it while work is stable gives that process time instead of beginning only after an unexpected loss of employment. A clear, maintained professional footprint may then create a warmer inbound conversation because the recruiter or company has already seen some potential relevance.

Occasional relevant approaches may create more choice, including room to decline a poor-fit opportunity rather than accepting the first available conversation. These are possibilities: inbound is not universally better, and attention, interviews, offers, or a steady flow of approaches are never guaranteed. Building and maintaining the footprint is active work. Active applications can coexist with it, although vacancy-search and application-volume tactics remain outside the guide's scope.

The guide uses English for its main path and examples, but the same method applies to roles using another language. Native or perfect English is not required.

What makes the guide practical

Each stage helps you make a decision or take a next step: improve one professional signal, evaluate an inbound conversation, or prepare for an interview. The guidance favors supportable evidence and honest limits, and every stage remains useful as a standalone reference.

How the guide began

The guide grew from research into how someone living in Brazil could become more findable to companies in other countries. It started with useful software experience, a belief that a cross-border remote role was realistic, and a desire for better opportunities. The country was origin context, not an audience boundary; possible USD compensation was a motivation, not a promise. Because available advice was fragmented—and some useful material was sold as paid advice—the research combined independent learning with useful exchanges among LinkedIn connections. Notes collected along the way were first shared with friends and later developed into this public guide.

The cross-border remote role the author ultimately accepted began with an inbound LinkedIn approach. That lived experience records the guide's provenance; it is not a guarantee that the same path will produce the same result for a reader.
